USCIS Ends 540-Day Automatic Extension for EAD Renewals
Update – October 14, 2026: USCIS has issued a final rule codifying its October 30, 2025, interim final rule eliminating the maximum 540-day automatic extension of Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) for certain renewal applicants, including H-4 spouses and applicants with pending adjustment of status applications. The final rule makes permanent the changes discussed in our original article below.
