Dave brings over 25 years of experience as a civil litigator representing business and individuals in a range of complex commercial matters involving contract, construction, real property, and general litigation matters. His clients include residential and commercial property owners, business owners, homeowner associations, general contractors, and subcontractors in all areas of dispute resolution, including trial and appellate litigation, arbitration, and mediation.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS/ENGAGEMENTS:

Assisted numerous owners, contractors, and subcontractors in lien foreclosure actions and construction defect disputes.
Negotiated numerous contracts for a general contractors on multi-million condominium rehabilitation projects.
Successfully represented general contractor against developer in jury trial resulting in a $1.288 million dollar verdict.
Successfully represented a homeowner’s association against former association manager in jury trial resulting in an over $100,000 verdict.
Represented a homeowner’s association in claims against a condominium developer resulting in a $4.7 million settlement.
Represented the owner/developer of a hotel in litigation against a large window manufacturer over defective windows, leading to a settlement exceeding $300,000.
Successfully defended residential homeowners against claims from a general contractor regarding changed work, securing damages for the homeowners.
Represented a general contractor in litigation against a Fire District over unforeseen conditions on a public works job, resulting in a $475,000 settlement.
Assisted various business owners in negotiations and litigation related to partnership disputes.
Represented a large developer in a lawsuit against an engineering firm over design claims, resulting in a settlement of over $100,000.
Advocated for large commercial and residential landlords in numerous landlord-tenant disputes.
Successfully defended a borrower against claims from a large lender in trial court, prevailing on appeal to the United States District Court.

HOBBIES & INTERESTS

Dave was born and raised in Ludington, Michigan and attended the University of Michigan graduating with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Political Science. After graduating from college, Dave moved to Seattle to attend Seattle University School of Law. During the course of his legal career, Dave’s practice has developed in both large and small firms settings with the focus of his practice on commercial and construction matters. Dave’s clients come from a variety of industries and businesses, and he has represented numerous individuals and business owners in litigation, on appeal, and through alternative dispute resolution. He is drawn to the hands‑on nature of his practice, and particularly the long‑standing relationships he develops with his clients. Dave lives on Bainbridge Island with his wife and son, and enjoys spending time coaching little league baseball, sports, traveling, and attending Michigan football games when he can as a season ticket holder for over 30 years.
