The presidential voting season is coming up in November. The USCIS is now processing applications for Naturalization in under six to eight months. File now so you can register to vote before next Fall. You can access the application form, N-400, at www.uscis.gov. However, you may need some legal assistance if you:
- Have been outside the U.S. for significant periods of time after becoming a permanent resident, not just in the last five years.
- Have been married before or have changed your name.
- Have been arrested, detained, or cited by the police or any other law enforcement officer.
- Have not registered for the Selective Service when you were supposed to do so.
- Have failed to file U.S. Income Tax Returns or pay your taxes.
- Have lost your permanent residency card.
- Have a medical disability that prevents you from taking the test.
- Have citizenship in another country and wonder if you can have dual citizenship.
- Have questions regarding taking the oath of allegiance.
- Have other questions regarding the application.
