Matt is an associate at Ryan Swanson, working primarily within the Real Estate, Development & Finance and Business Groups. His practice ranges the entire spectrum of commercial real estate. Every piece of real estate is unique, and Matt enjoys collaboratively assisting clients navigate through a variety of complex legal challenges to arrive at solutions that meet and exceed his clients’ goals.
Before Matt’s position as an associate, he worked as a summer associate with Ryan Swanson in 2021 and as a law clerk for the firm while he returned to finish law school at Seattle University.
Matt has advised buyers and sellers of real estate throughout the life of a transaction. Matt’s experience includes drafting purchase and sale agreements, reviewing the state of title for the property, and quickly identifying and resolving issues to facilitate a successful closing.
Each lease presents its own special considerations, and Matt has experience in drafting, reviewing, and advising on leases for several different types of property, including industrial, office, and mixed-use spaces.
Matt assists clients in development of real property, including negotiating construction contracts on behalf of developers and drafting and reviewing easements, regularly helping clients overcome legal hurdles in the development process.
From the initial steps of drafting the declaration of covenants, conditions, and restrictions (“CC&Rs”) and forming a homeowners’ association to assisting clients prepare to sell homes to buyers, Matt has an intimate familiarity with the process of creating common interest communities.
Matt has assisted clients in advancing and modifying loans of different sizes, possessing the knowledge to navigate complex laws governing real estate lending to ensure that his clients’ interests are adequately protected.
Matt has experience in forming and advising on corporate governance issues for various types of business entities, including limited liability companies, nonprofit corporations, partnerships, and professional entities.
Outside of work, Matt enjoys cycling, playing chess, brushing up on his trivia, and traveling with his wife. He played soccer during his four years at Davidson College, where he was the team captain and was awarded MVP during his senior season.
